Bright Direction Training are delighted to be chosen as a training provider by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), giving local people the skills and training they need to help fill the thousands of jobs the forthcoming Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games are expected to generate.
The WMCA has made £1m funding available for technical skills development, helping local people to gain new skills in digital marketing, event management, hospitality, team leading and sports coaching.
The WMCA is funding the training as part of the Commonwealth Jobs and Skills Academy, which is accelerating and amplify plans to improve regional skills and employment opportunities through the Games, with a particular focus on supporting young people and unemployed adults.
One of Bright Direction Training’s recent learners, Dan Bradley, from Solihull, is a graduate in Business and Marketing, but unfortunately, he couldn’t find any work because of the pandemic. He has always been a keen gym goer and gained a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training after completing a course with Bright Direction Training, funded by the WMCA. As a result, Dan has started a new career as a self-employed personal trainer.
Dan said: “I couldn’t believe I was getting training of this quality for free – I researched similar courses costing £3,000 upwards, which I couldn’t afford. I’ve become an online coach, focusing on mental and physical health during lockdown. It’s been a complete success and I can’t thank everyone enough, it really is a dream come true.”
Free training opportunities, leading to Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications, are available for local adults through chosen training providers; Bright Direction Training is offering training in business management, retail and commercial enterprise, and tourism.

We know that sadly thousands of people have lost their jobs or are feeling uncertain about their future, and the Commonwealth Games offers thousands of opportunities to retrain to start a new career.
“I would encourage everyone to look at the training we are making available and think about what role they would like to play not just for the Commonwealth Games, but in shaping our region for the future.”
Anyone aged 19 or over who lives in the WMCA area is eligible to apply for the free training.
